Bob Knowler - Woodbury County Treasurer

Bob Knowler came from the business world in 1995 to become Woodbury County's Treasurer. A Sioux City resident since 1962, Knowler owned men's stores (Black Knight) and auto service centers (Jiffy Lube).

Dozens of innovative changes have occurred in the Treasurer's tax and motor vehicle departments under Knowler, including the Little Courthouse in Anthon and the new Motor Vehicle/DNR Departments in the Trosper Hoyt Building.

Electronic enhancements in Knowler's departments have enabled the county to offer improved service with an actual decrease in staff expense. Under Knowler's leadership, Woodbury County actually leads the nation in several customer services.

The University of Tennessee's continuing Education department and the National Association of County Treasurers and Finance Officers have awarded Knowler the designation of Certified Finance Officer.

Knowler has served the Iowa State Association of County Treasurers as Secretary/Treasurer, Vice President and as President in 2000/2001.

The National Association of County Treasurers and Finance Officers in 2000 selected Knowler the "Victor E. Martinelli Outstand Treasurer in the United States Award". This award is presented annually by ty the NACTFO to a person who serves as a leader in their home state and as a professional of the highest caliber in the operation of their own County office, plus having an outstanding record of community service.
